This month’s art card began with a sprig of honesty from my garden.

I thought I had lost the honesty altogether. It seemed to have disappeared, eaten by snails and generally defeated by the garden. But this year it quietly returned — first with its beautiful purple flowers and now with those extraordinary papery seed heads, each holding little pockets of seeds ready to scatter themselves and begin again.
I used the seed heads on my gel printing plate, experimenting with acrylic paint and block-printing ink. I made quite a few prints, some cleaner and more detailed than others, but in the end I came back to one of the first. It was murky and imperfect, but it had the feeling I wanted. I added just a few pencil marks to reveal the seeds inside.

It reminded me that this practice was never really about producing a perfect little artwork. The making is the practice.
At the moment, I feel as though I have some momentum. After a busy, slightly chaotic summer, things are moving again. Lists are being ticked off, ideas are becoming things, and I’m enjoying being productive.
But I don’t want to turn that energy into another demand to do more and more. Like the honesty scattering its seeds, not everything has to produce an immediate result. Some things can simply be started, explored or put into the world. We may not know what has taken root until much later.
Intention: Steady Momentum
I will enjoy the energy of moving forward without needing to rush.
Practice: Follow the Energy
Keep going while it feels good. Follow what interests you, finish what wants finishing, and notice when enough is enough. Leave some energy for tomorrow.
Perhaps that is enough for this new moon: not a dramatic fresh start or an enormous new plan.
Just keep participating. Keep making. Keep scattering a few seeds.
And see what comes back.
