My Birthday Week: Crafting, Chaos, and Celebrating Life

Well, it’s official—I turned 49 yesterday! I can’t believe how quickly time flies when you’re knee-deep in fabric, thread, and a never-ending to-do list. My birthday was a bit of a blur, but in the best possible way: crafting, family chaos, and plenty of creative moments. Here’s how it went down:

First, I’ve been knee-deep in the Year 10 Skills Quilt project. Since I’ve only been at my current school for a year and a half, I’ve decided it’s time to refresh everything. New samples are coming together, and I’m putting together teaching resources to help my students get to grips with fresh textile techniques. I’ll share more when it’s a bit more finished. Nothing like a good challenge to make you feel alive (or at least make you wish for more coffee).

Yesterday wasn’t just my birthday—it was also the day I finally shared my studio tour with everyone! If you’ve been following my journey, you might recall the long process of building my garden studio a few years ago (check out my YouTube video if you want to see me pretend to know what I’m doing with power tools). This is the first time I’ve opened the doors and showed the inside. It’s been so fun sharing my creative space with all of you.

In between all of that, I had some fun with party decor and setup. Think bunting, lanterns, and a few handmade touches that made my birthday feel like a DIY haven. You can never have too much bunting, right? Or maybe that’s just me… The party vibe was exactly what I was hoping for—crafty, colourful, and full of the good kind of chaos.

And, of course, I’ve been getting new stock ready for my Folksy shop. The fresh designs are coming together, and I’m looking forward to launching them soon.

I did a test run of one of my new necklace designs at my birthday party.

Life at home hasn’t slowed down either. As a wife to a busy musician and the mum to two teenagers—one just out of school and the other finishing college—there’s never a dull moment. My teenagers are at a transition point in life, figuring out what’s next, and the family energy is a mix of excitement, confusion, and plenty of air frying of random freezer items at all hours. But hey, at least it keeps me on my toes.

So, here’s to a birthday week full of creativity, family madness, and plenty of laughs.

I’d love to hear how you celebrate your creative moments! Drop a comment below with your favorite DIY decor. Share your party tips. Tell me how you manage to stay inspired throughout the year. And don’t forget to watch this space. My new handmade fabric jewellery collection is coming soon. Let’s keep this crafty vibe going! ✨
