Many Leahs
Monday, 28th, September 2009 · 2 Comments
This is a picture of many Leahs some of them you might remember

I am feeling sentimental, I think my new chapter has made me review some of the old ones. I have had many different stages in my life and each stage has had a very special set of friends that shared that time with me, and when you move onto new chapters you sometime leave them behind a little, neglect them for new and exciting things… Well I am sorry old friends, all those people who I have collected on Facebook, and have not spent nearly enough time catching up with I remember dearly each and every one of you and why I loved you, and needed you at the stage in my life you shared.
Since time began friends
School Friends
Rugby Art College Friends
Wimbledon Art School Friends
London Friends
Firkin Friends
Habitat Friends
and not forgetting my newer Nottingham Friends who I have neglected a little since having children…..
Anyway… I have to sew now, but MIL is coming tomorrow to collect the bags so I will talk longer tomorrow evening. XX

Women ARE from Venus and Men are from?
Sunday, 27th, September 2009 · Leave a Comment
Well, Saturday night, here I am toys scattered at my feet, children asleep, 2 year old decided to sleep in his tent in his bedroom, so no doubt he’ll wake in a tangle at some point.
I am watching a film on the laptop, while ironing and blogging multitasktastic. LP has been in London today and managed to get on the really slow train home by accident.
Bags are taking so long to finish mainly because children need looking after and I am trying to snatch a moment to sew here and there…and they are just the tip of the iceberg of ideas I have, the ideas are coming quicker than I can make them. I know this is what I want to do, but boy it’s hard work.
Do you know what women are amazing, the older I get the more I realize it. Having children has made LP and I fall into really traditional roles and it’s full on being a mother, housewife, partner…. I am not at home all day with a cup of tea and my feet up watching day time TV, like I sometimes think LP thinks I am…. every day is a fine balancing act between keeping the laundry situation manageable (we have run out of cloths before due to a back log and ended up in some very strange outfits for a few days while I caught up) keeping the children entertained and fed and changed and clean and disciplined… doing the food shopping on practically no money, cooking dinner, cleaning the house and children……..and trying to do some of my own stuff too, building something for me.. whew… I am tired just writing it, I think women ARE from Venus and Men, well they are from some other planet where the don’t do much housework. I know LP feels different pressure, being the only one bringing money in, working in a stressful job, commuting to a different city to work…….It’s so hard to understand each others lives at the moment
Then we get to Sunday a trip to Ikea to have breakfast with SIL and Ben, and then LP went out for band practice (he hates it when I call it that!! “It’s a rehearsal!”) Tried again to sew, managed a little… better get a move on MIL is coming over on Tuesday afternoon to pick up the stuff to sell at the Urban Market (see previous post!)
Now, as LP was in charge of dinner it’s toasted cheese sandwiches and beer! I am not complaining it’s just what I need actually.

Wow well I am in full juggling mode and I am taking 5 minutes to catch up…. while the 2 year old destroys upstairs in protest at being put to bed….
There’s lots to tell you…. I am not sure where to start… Last Wednesday I went to Life Drawing again and it was a fun one, new model, a French girl with a head full of black dreads… really nice to draw, here’s a couple of pictures. I tried coming out of my comfort zone and used charcoal.. I normally go for a really soft pencil and a putty rubber…. I found it much harder but it’s good to expand your skills.
After that on Thursday I went spinning again, How different.. who’d have thought an exercise class where you ride like a nutter on a exercise bike could be so different… it was less Ministry of Sound more gay cruise this time…. I liked it better, squatting up and down, racing , fast, slow, while listening to Abba! I am booked in again for Sunday evening which will apparently be different again!
Friday LP went out after work so I was home alone, normally I would have just watched TV, but since we got rid of it…..(see previous post ) I was kind of at a loose end so I started sewing…as I have been meaning to for weeks…. LP’s mum (MIL) asked if I would like to sell some crafts at her church craft fair and it’s not like a normal church fair you might imaging… it’s a massive modern church that is based in an industrial unit…and it’s not called a fair it’s an Urban Market….so I said yes and now about a week before it’s due to happen I finally get round to starting to make some things!
I’ll show you some pictures of my creations when they are a little more finished…..
Saturday LP got up and took the kids out eventually he was feeling a bit rough….. they all went on the train as LP’s train pass was still valid and 2 year olds enjoy that sort of thing!! in the afternoon I had arranged to meet an old college friend of mine who I hadn’t seen for years…. and purely by chance happened to have moved into a house a couple of 100 yards away…. so a couple of pints in the local were called for, family in tow… it was so nice to catch up, they say people come into your life for a reason and I think this might be one of those times… old friend who is into art and showed an interest in coming life drawing!! so after a a couple of pints too early in the evening for me, I attempted some sewing ….. bit scratty had to unpick most in the morning ooops….
and Now we are onto Sunday, I get the morning off most Sundays as LP takes the kids up to MIL’s church… this week MIL came back with him… nothing like MIL visit to spark a mammoth cleaning session and the house needed it sewing is a messy business.. Cooked chili, coconut, pumpkin soup…. and they were back, a nice afternoon with MIL, then Sister-in-law (SIL) came round as we were all going to see Coco before Chanel at the Screen Room Nottingham’s smallest cinema… only 21 seats I would recommend it!!
Last time I went there was SIL’s hen do… that was a really nice day, we had cup cakes and cava while watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s….. then went on for cocktails and finally champagne and nibbles followed by very posh meal!! It was lovely…. MIL & SIL are very fashionable and ALWAYS impeccably turned out so I put on a bit of mascara for the cinema???
After the film, which I throughly enjoyed, we had a pasta supper and glass of wine or two… all in all a very civilized girly evening out…
And then we are up to Monday… I spent most of it madly sewing and pretty much ditto for today!!!

Alphaisms volume 2
Thursday, 17th, September 2009 · 1 Comment
I just kept thinking of so many I had missed that I had to do another post…..
There is he fact that he keeps saying “Good Boy Mummy” every time I use the toilet…..
When we were at my Dad’s party the other day he heckled the guitar player and requested Old McDonald!
When I said to LP I was going to change Iona’s Nappy, he chips in ” Ona stinks mummy?”
We are a family of vegetarians…. so once when I was looking through a picture book it had fish on the food page and I said “We don’t eat fish” on the next page of the book he pointed at a picture of a robot and said “We don’t eat robot’s mummy”
I’ll stop rambling on about my funny little boy now…. Let’s talk about something else?
I have not yet told you about Life Drawing & Spinning this week so i’ll update you tomorrow…. but now it’s time for a bath and bed.

Alphaisms
Thursday, 17th, September 2009 · Leave a Comment
I know every parent thinks their child is the best, funniest, prettiest and so on…..I think my children are amazing, but I am well aware they are not alway going to be the best at what they do….. and maybe I have my mummy goggles on, but I honestly think my 2 year old little boy is one of the funniest people I know…. So I though I would share some of these Alphaisms with you.
The first one I can remember happened quite a while a go, Alpha has this thing about throwing things down the stairs, and I was carrying him down the stairs one morning and noticed his dressing gown half way down the stairs, so I turned to him and said “How did that get there?” knowing full well he had thrown it down there earlier that morning…. He shrugged his shoulders threw his arms in the air and replied “Magic!!”
Then there was the time he was having a real strop and I was ignoring it and this riled him even more, he threw all his toys over the stair gate into the kitchen followed by his nappy, I then went over to him and asked “How did this get in here?”, he looked over at the window and replied “The wind blew it off mummy!”
A good friend of mine was visiting once and admittedly he did need a haircut, we were talking about haircuts and alpha pipes in ” you have willy hair on your head!” we sat in stunned silence for a moment then rolled around crying with laughter Alpha just looked on not sure what he had said that was so funny….
and finally for this installment of Alphaisms….Alpha’s favorite teddy bear is called B Bear, he is named after my step dads mum, who is sadly no longer with us, but Alpha was given the bear when she passed away, and her name was Bee and so we have B Bear…….I was pottering around and had been singing Beat it by Micheal Jackson all morning and I hear Alpha singing, so I stop to hear what he’s singing expecting twinkle twinkle little star… only to hear Just B Bear, B Bear, B Bear sung in the style of Beat it…. it made me smile all day.

Wheres my house gone?
Every cup, plate, knife, fork, beaker…. has been used? There is no bread or milk…. the rubbish bins are full….. We only did all this on Sunday….. Oh here I am again, lets put boring old Housewife head on……. Kitchen done, 4 dishwasher loads later…… Now the living room seams to have become a playroom, this has all happened since we decided to get rid of our TV…..It seamed like a stupid Idea at first…. no TV? but do you know what, that is partly what started the ball rolling for me doing something for myself….. I would have just put the TV on at the end of the day and watched? do you know what I couldn’t even tell you what I watched now? Ugly Betty, Gok, come dine with me, none of these really add any value to my life?
SO it went… given away! cold turkey!
A few times in gaps between jobs, rare quite moments, I think what shall I do…. go into the living room, look for the remote… and remember it has gone… and then go and do something more interesting instead (those of you who are my age will remember Why Don’t You…. they don’t make children’s Television like they used to!!)
anyway since that has happened we have stopped using the living room, we sit in the kitchen at the table, talk, sew, draw, play music!
Operation liberate living room has begun!
While I was starting to tackle this, I thought I’ll leave Alpha to make a get well soon card for Granddad Fix-it…. who knew how much damage a 2 year old could do with a tube of glitter and a glue stick!!! I now have a sparkly kitchen……
Ok here is a before and after shot of the living room! (I just need to find the perfect rug, the last one went… death by children! Build some shelves, repaint the wall after sticky fingers have been on them…. oh the DIY list is stressing me again!)
Now I just need to go and do the rest of the house….. Housewife head is on all day today, then tomorrow…. Ena is coming out again….It’s all about balance people!

Disco Spinning
Monday, 14th, September 2009 · Leave a Comment
Last night I went spinning for the first time ever, in fact I went to an exercise class for the first time ever!
It is a well known fact that being in a happy relationship and having children makes you fat.
So after Adele my friend and inspiration persuaded me to go spinning, I was booked in, committed, there really was no turning back, she even came to get me…. I was sort of excited, but pretty sure I was going to make an absolute fool of myself, collapse in a sweaty panting heap after 15 minutes and look like a tomato and not be able to walk…. but I went anyway.
We get on our bikes, the instructor is really nice and helps me adjust my bike and tells me to just do what I can…..
for those of you who have never been spinning, imagine being forced to cycle the Tour De France on an exercise bike in the middle of a night club with a crazed woman shouting at you over the loud speaker….. no yellow jersey though.
The light are turned off, Disco lights come on, really loud pumping music starts and we are off……Stand up and cycle like a nutter for 45 minuites….. Oh my god….Now I actually don’t really sweat very much, and it was pouring of me! I just got my head down and kept thinking I have given birth to two children I CAN DO THIS, my legs started to burn, my feet hurt, but do you know what, I got off the bike and felt a bit wobbly but good……
Poor LP I got home and he was ready to crash out, I on the other hand was full of beans.
I am going again on Thursday
Thank you Adele you are my spinning inspiration!! X
